About Us 

Natavari Kathak Nritya Academy, Indore was established by Padma Shri Dr Puru Dadheech and Dr Vibha Dadheech in the year 1988.

 

It got registered as an educational trust in the year 2004 under Madhya Pradesh Society Registrations Act, 1973 (1973 serial number 44 ) by the registration   number 03/27/03/07787/04 on 18/06/2004

OUR OBJECTIVE

We actively work with the artists community with the aim is to preserve, restore, promote and propagate the rich legacy of the Classical Performing Arts.

 

Natavari under the mentorship of its founders has been instrumental in reviving many ancient traditions of kathak dance and also in bringing to light many unexplored and new Shastra Granths.

PRESERVATION AND RESTORATION

  • Undertake extensive Research projects to uneart h ancient texts a nd treatises of Performing arts.

  • Reviving of ancient t raditions in Kathak Dance based on a thorough and an in-depth          research of the various gra nths available in time and history.

  • Reconst ructing of a ncient da nce movements of kathak dance to revive t he lost traditional repertoire of Kathak dance

  • Reviving the old tradition of "katha- kathan" in Kathak to narrate epics and other stories and   anecdotes.

DEDICATED RESEARCH CENTRE FOR KATHAK

  • A dedicated research centre for advanced research in Kathak was established under the Directorship of Dr Puru Dadheech in collaboration with t he esteemed Sri Sri University - Cuttac k. This centre -the Sri Sri Centre for Advanced Research in Kathak (SSCARK) is first of its kind in the world dedicated ONLY to Kathak

  • The centre has around 30 PhD research scholars to be working on Kathak research.

  • The centre organized the first ever virtual "International Kathak Conference 2021" on Kathak and Sashtra. There were 60 research papers presented, 15 plenary sessions and attended by almost 100 participants all over the globe.

  • For the very first time. the proceedings and selected research papers are also being published by t he Sangeet Natak Akademi in their SNA journal - a special edition dedicated to Research in Kathak.

 FUTURE EXPANSION PLANS

  • Establish a gurukul a midst a sma ll village near Indore in Khargone district in the lap of nature of a quiet village locale away from the noisy environment  of the city.

  • Impart education under the shastric a nd traditiona l gurukul system ta king advantages of a ll the modern tec hnologies available.

  • Revival of traditions of Kathak and ancient dance system. Gurukul would only be open for residential short/ long-term courses, conferences, workshops and events.

  • Establish a research centre for Kathak with an exhaustive library to be accessed by all. 

  • Digitization and documenta tion of ancient sc riptures, books and valuable research material, to be made availa ble to be accessed globally.

  • Revive theatrica l dance productions with help of residential students and faculty.
