Dr Vibha Dadheech was born on 12th march 1954 at Bilaspur (CG) to noted freedom fighter Late Shri Bhramarji Gupta. Her mother Late Mrs Purna Devi Gupta was awarded with the prestigious presidential award for being an ideal teacher. Through their lifelong mentorship, Vibha as a child was instilled the qualities of tenacity and perseverance along with kindness and compassion, which are the hallmarks of her journey as a Kathak artist.

Her Kathak dance training started under the famous darbari dancer of Raigarh gharana Shri Firtu Maharajji at a very young age of 8 years. After that she was traditionally trained under the guru-shishya parampara by the legendary Padmashri Shambhu Maharajji, from whom she learned the movement vocabulary and aesthetic beauty of the Lucknow gharana. This attention to detail and graceful aesthetic is a hallmark of her dance. She received final comprehensive training in the art of Kathak by her husband and famous nrityacharya Padmashri Dr Puru Dadheech.

Dr Vibha Dadheech is one those few ladies from an elite class family of that era, who devoted her life to the art of kathak dance. Apart from completing B.Sc and B.Ed from Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur, she also completed her Nritya Praveen from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, Nritya Nipun from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapeeth, Lucknow and M.A. (dance) from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya with gold medals. She also has been awarded with Ph.D from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagara for her research titled “Bhartiya Nritya ki Varnamala – Hasta Mudra”.

Dr Vibha Dadheech’s dance performances have a beautiful showcase of art from both Jaipur and Lucknow gharanas. Specialities of her dance includes performing the most difficult layakaris with ease in the form of todas, tukdas, parans, paramelus and tatkar, mesmerizing display of ‘Bhav’ in gatnikas, Thumri, Bhajans, etc. While elegant movements, vivid expression of emotions, easy, intelligible and spectacular use of ‘Aprachalit Taals’ and bandishes are some specialities of her traditional dance, Dr Vibha Dadheech is an experimental artist in the boundaries of the tradition of the art. Her dance creations based on poetic verses in Sanskrit and Hindi gathered her utmost fame. She had been associated with Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya as a Reader - Kathak and currently the director of Natvari Kathak Nritya Academy, Indore, where since 30 years she has not  just trained many students and researchers, but is also managing and collecting a huge dance library along with Guru Dr Puru Dadheech. Natwari currently has 7 branches in India in Maharashtra, Gujrat and Telangana running a new ideal course designed by Dr Vibha Dadheech.  She is also working towards bringing shastras and research to the Kathak students by joining hands with other institutes and conducting various courses on Natya Shastra in reference to Kathak and more recently a course on Kathak Shastra.

An art form needs preservation, propagation and promotion to survive the tests of time. Dr Vibha Dadheech has been working on all these aspects ,giving stage to many upcoming young artists and constantly travelling across the nation to conduct workshops on Kathak. She has curated a number of new courses and is working on developing one of its kind kathak gurukul for kathak research. Keeping in mind the need of today’s global students, she produced Nritya Sarwasva , a video book elaborating on the various intra-forms of Kathak. Her book on essays Nritya Nibandh is one of the most popular books in Kathak. Thus while preserving shastras through her research and well as sampradaya through her delineation of the guru-shisya parampara, she is truly leaving her mark in the history of Kathak. She is currently an Honorary Professor (Professor Emeritus) in the Faculty of Arts, Communication and Indic Studies (FACIS), Sri Sri University.
